Why this archive exists
The Trichinopoly cigar appears in travel writing, fiction, commercial records, and memories of colonial-era trade. Yet its history is often repeated in fragments, with little distinction between a contemporary record and a later story.
This project brings those fragments together. Articles will rely on traceable sources, identify uncertainty, and place the cigar industry within the wider social history of Tiruchirappalli.
A note on this site
Trichy Cigars is a historical and cultural archive. We do not sell or promote cigars or tobacco.
This independent project would be difficult to produce at its present scale without artificial intelligence. We use AI extensively to create editorial imagery, especially when the people, places, and objects described in our articles have left little usable visual material. These images are interpretations, not historical records, and we identify them clearly wherever they appear.
